Important Building Closure Dates & Updates

  • LHOB closed for Veteran’s Day November 11th 

  • LHOB closed Thanksgiving day November 26th and Friday after November 27th

  • LHOB closed December 21st to December 25th 

 

LHOB Social Groups and Activities: 

  • For all events you must RSVP in advance as space is limited. If you show up that day and are not on the list, we are not able to accommodate.

  • If you cannot make it to an activity you signed up for, please call and let us know. If you have 3 unexcused absences, we will have to deny entry to social activities for one month. 

  • If any changes are ever made to an activity that you are signed up for, you will be notified ASAP.

  • Please call extension 147 if you have any questions or concerns.

Activity Cancellations for the Quarter: 

  • No Activities on October 9th, October 23rd or December 18th.

Zumba Class: Every other Friday (as two groups switch on and off) from 12:30p.m. – 1:30p.m.  Join us for a fun and energetic Zumba class that combines dance and fitness! This class features high-energy music and dynamic dance moves that provide an excellent cardio workout while improving coordination and rhythm. While most of the movements can be adapted for a seated position, there will also be some standing routines to elevate your heart rate and boost your mood. Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or a beginner, this class is designed for everyone to enjoy! Please RSVP at 954-463-4217 ext. 110. Space is limited.

Arts & Crafts: Every other Thursday (October 1st, 15th, and 29th. November 12th. December 3rd and 17th) from 1:30p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Join us for adapted arts and crafts projects including painting with tactile lines, clay work, sewing, and floral arrangements. Activities vary each week. Please RSVP at 954-463-4217 ext. 110. Space is limited.

 

Cooking Class- Every other Thursday from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm (October 8th and 22nd. November 5th and 19th. December 10th). Join us for some fun, hands-on culinary creativity! Discover delicious, easy recipes, including anything from healthy snacks, to no-bake desserts. Please RSVP at 954-463-4217 ext. 110 and provide front desk with any food allergies. Space is limited. 

Fitness Class- Join us for fitness every Monday! We have two different times, including Class A from 9 am to 10 am and Class B from 11 am to 12 pm (You will be added to one class, there is no taking both in one day). This dynamic class includes strength, balance, and endurance training. Come grab a mat (or a chair for adaptations) and start feeling your best! Beginners are welcome! Trivia Group:  Join us every first Friday of the month (October 2nd, November 6th, and December 4th) from 10:00am-12:00pm. When raucous laughter is heard in the halls of the Lighthouse, you can be sure it’s coming from the trivia group. Questions on a variety of subjects are read by a volunteer, and anyone who thinks they have the answer is free to call it out. Please RSVP at 954-463-4217 ext. 110. Space is limited.

 

 

BINGO: (October 16th, November 13th and December 11th) Join us from 10 am to 12 pm for Bingo with Brailed cards and large print cards. There are prizes for the winners. Please RSVP at 954-463-4217 ext. 110. Space is limited.

 

 

Guitar Class Members ONLY: Join musician Mike Ader from 10am to 12pm (October Please bring your guitar, nylon or steel string accepted (no electric). You must have access to the BARD app, either through smartphone or cassette tape (from Talking Books Washington D.C.). You must also be willing to consistently practice at home using guidance from instructor. Additional practices with Morgan every month as well. Please call ext. 147 for those dates.

 

In-Person Problem Solvers Support Group for past clients with Dr. Alan Katell: The second Thursday of the month (October 8th, November 12th, and December 10th) from 11:00am–12:00pm. This support group offers a space for past clients to connect with others who have similar experiences. Instructors lead discussions on relevant topics and challenges that members with visual impairments may be encountering. This group provides an opportunity for individuals to share their experiences, insights, and strategies, fostering a supportive environment where members can exchange ideas, offer mutual encouragement, and work together to find effective solutions. Please RSVP at 954-463-4217 ext. 110. Descriptive movies: Join us on select Thursdays for a movie and popcorn! The movies will be shown with Audio Description from 11:00am – 1:00pm. Please RSVP at 954-463-4217 ext. 110. Space is limited.

 

  • October 1st- You Again- A woman discovers her brother is about to marry the same girl who bullied her in high school. When their families meet, old rivalries resurface, leading to a series of awkward and hilarious confrontations.

 

  • October 15th- College Road Trip- A family comedy about a strict police chief who takes his teenage daughter on a road trip to visit colleges. She wants independence and adventure, while her overprotective dad keeps trying to control everything. Their journey turns into a series of funny mishaps and unexpected adventures.

 

  • October 29th- Old Dogs-  Two longtime best friends and business partners have their lives turned upside down when one of them discovers he has 7-year-old twins. As they suddenly have to care for the children, their carefree lifestyle becomes a chaotic adventure full of funny situations. 

 

  • November 5th- Queen of Katwe- An inspiring drama based on the true story of Phiona Mutesi, a young girl from Uganda who discovers a talent for chess. With the support of her coach and family, she works hard to overcome hardship and become a successful chess player.

 

  • November 19th- Snow Dogs- A Miami dentist unexpectedly inherits a team of sled dogs in Alaska. He travels north to claim them and ends up learning how to train and race the dogs while dealing with the challenges of life in the snowy wilderness.

 

  • December 3rd- Family Switch- A busy mom and dad who magically switch bodies with their teenage children. As they try to navigate each other’s lives, they experience funny and chaotic situations that ultimately help the family understand and appreciate one another better.

 

  • December 17th- Home Alone- A family comedy about an 8-year-old boy who is accidentally left home alone when his family goes on vacation. When two burglars try to break into his house, he uses clever and hilarious traps to protect his home.

 

 

English Conversation Club: Meets the First Tuesday of the month (October 6th, November 3rd, and December 1st) –from 1:00pm-3:00pm. Please join Dee Nelson for English Conservation Club where participants will make new friends and gain hands on speaking experience with practical, real-world topics. This social group is for clients past and current who want to improve their English Communication Skills. Please RSVP at 954-463-4217 ext. 110. Space is limited.

Support for Past and Present LHOB Clients:
Last Wednesday of the month –                                     from 1:00-2:00. This support group is to help participants who want to connect with other individuals who are visually impaired. Instructors will discuss strategies for dealing with stress and anxiety. Members of this group can connect; share their experiences, coping strategies, and their strength and hope.

Special Events for Past and Current LHOB Clients:

 

Electoral Forum Event- October 9th, 2026- Join us for the 2nd Lighthouse Electoral Forum from 10am to 1pm to hear directly from community leaders, as they discuss issues impacting Broward County. Learn about accessible voting resources, including specialized voting machines for the visually impaired. Located at Village Civic Center (6800 Sunset Strip, Sunrise, FL 33313). A sandwich and potato chips lunch will be provided (ham, turkey, or veggie). Please RSVP at 954-463-4217 ext. 110. 

 

White Cane Day- October 23rd, 2026- Join us for our annual White Cane Day Celebration at the Dania Beach Lion’s Club (501 S.W. 4th Ave Dania Beach, FL 33004). It will be from 11 am to 2 pm, open to both past and current clients! The Lions club will be providing a lunch of hamburgers, hotdogs, and sides. If you have any dietary restrictions/allergies, please feel free to bring your own lunch. Please RSVP at 954-463-4217 ext. 110. Space is limited. 

 

Client Holiday Party- December 17th, 2026- Join us for our annual Adult Client Holiday Party @ Galuppi’s from 11 A.M. – 2 P.M. (1103 N Federal Hwy, Pompano Beach, FL 33062) There will be holiday cheer, delicious food, great music, and great company!


Each guest is served a duet plated lunch of Grilled Salmon with Beurre Blanc Sauce and Chicken Piccata along with a side of Loaded Mashed Potatoes, Wild Vegetable Medley, Garden Salad, and fresh rolls & butter, along with Cheesecake Parfaits for dessert. Secondary option: Vegetarian Plate. 

 

Cost is $25.00 per person. Clients may pay through QR code on the flyer or through our square tablet at our front desk. Cash and checks are also accepted. No refunds after November 30th, we can only give that seat away.
