IMMEDIATE OPENING – Teacher of the Visually Impaired

Description

Immediate opening for a full-time Teacher of the Visually Impaired working with Blind and Visually Impaired children.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include: travel to the assigned student to provide direct and/or consultative special education services relating to vision loss. The students range in age from 6 through 14 and may have only a visual impairment or additional disabilities. The cognitive levels of the students range from severely impaired to gifted and talented.

This position includes working off-site.

Qualifications

A minimum bachelor's degree from a college or university in early childhood education, elementary education, special education, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy or other related degree, preferably with specialization in visual impairments. Experience in Early Intervention is preferred.

Certification for teachers of students with visual impairments.

IMMEDIATE OPENING – Administrative Assistant—Rehabilitation Program

Description

Immediate opening for a full-time Administrative Assistant.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include: creation and maintenance of paper files for clients, demographic and service reports from client database, receipt of shipments and deliveries with appropriate record keeping, ordering of office supplies, contact with vendors for office equipment maintenance and repair, reception duties and supervision of volunteer receptionists, data input.

Qualifications

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office—Word, Excel, and email/Internet software.

IMMEDIATE OPENING - ACVREP - Vision Rehabilitation Therapist

Description

Immediate opening for a full-time CVRT rehabilitation teacher/rehab teacher, working with adults (with primary focus on older adults).

Duties include:

  • Assessing and evaluating the needs and abilities of individuals with impaired vision for meeting immediate needs related to independent living;
  • Developing individualized rehabilitation lessons, teaching adaptive skills needed for independent living in areas of personal care, household management, communication, education, leisure activities, and use of low vision aids;
  • Writing monthly reports;
  • Attending staff meetings;
  • Making community awareness and education presentations and teaching in group settings as well as individually.

This position is primarily itinerant.

Qualifications

ACVREP certification (CVRT) and Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university required. Excellent communication and computer skills needed with knowledge of Outlook, Word and Excel. Experience or interest in working with blind or visually impaired older adults required. Recent graduates welcome to apply. Orientation and Mobility certification a plus. Spanish speaking bonus.
